A QUESTION OF PRECEDENCE.
LORD MAYOR OF LONDON
. ELBOWED ASIDE
Paris, June 5
An unfortunate but amusing dispute regarding precedence occurred during the visit to Paris of mayors from Great Britain and other European countries. After speeches of welcome at the Hotel de Ville, all eyes were jsurned on the Lord Mayor of London,; but Lord Peel (chairman of the London County Council) promptly rose and responded. Sir Vanstittart Bowater (the Lord Mayor) followed.-;
When the visitors signed the Golden Book, Lord Peel inserted his signature above that of Sir Vansittart Bowater.
