The weekly meeting of the Literary and Debating Society was held in tho school-room on Thursday evening. MiLou Hoult presided. The business for tlie evening was a debate, "That strikes are justifiable." Mr Maskey opened in the affirmative, arid was supported by Messrs H. Homer and W. Moffatt. The negative was taken by Mr 1. Tunnicliffe, and supported by Mr M. Mead. As several speakers were unavoidably absent, the sides were not so evenly balanced as usual. The result of the ballot was in favour of the affirmative by a majority of two. Next Thursday Mr Moffatb is to give an address on Sir Joseph Ward's policy, as disclosed i^, his Winton speech. The meeting will be open, to the public.
