Mr J. R. Akersten, photographer, of Havelock, is at present visiting Nelson after a lapse of many years. When a resident of thib city Mr Akersten was. a prominent member of the old Artisans' Association, and took part in the many dramatic productions arranged by the Association for charitable purposes. His early education in the art of photography was obtained in Nelson with the late Messrs W. H. Davis and D. M. Isaac, and he has operated in moat of tho leading studios in the Dominion. Mr Akersten has mad© a speciality of scenic photography, and his collection of New Zealand views includes some very fine portions of the Rai- and Opoiiri valleys; and. the Sounds districts, besides other parts of the Dominion, a number of which have been applied for by the Tourist .Depart T merit for . the High Commissioner s office. In, 1913 Mr Akersten obtained the highest; award' in the Auckland "Weekly News" competition im ©conic subjects. ~
