Two writs, one for*a large amount, and the other for a smaller sum, haw boon issued at the instigation of the Customs Department, against Messrs Barlow Bros., well-known merchants in ChristchuTch, who up to a little whilo ago had -a large wholesale business in tobacco and general smoking utensils. The writs have been issued to claira duty which the Department alleges hay not been paid through the action- of a« employee of the firm who, it is allegoq, was mixed up in the Customs huude.
