The annual meeting of the Waimea Amateur Swimming Club was held on Saturday, there being only a fair attendance. The committee of the club work very hard at this meeting, and should be rewarded with a much larger attendance. The swimming in most of the races was very there being several close finishes. Members of the Kelson Amateur Swimming Club held a race yesterday from the Bonkler Bank to the rowing sb<*ds. The start wae effected at 6.45. Tho conditions lor a. swim so arduous were not propitious, a strong wind blowing, and bringing tip a choppy sea, while a very strong current was runnmg. The raw was completed in semidarkness. Four boats followed the contestant^ who became very widely separated. It is creditable to the swimmers that all of tho right starters scorned to be taken up by the boats, and finished. The contest was swum under sealed handicaps. The winr.er UkSed judgment* in securing the help of the tide, ar.d his time was ton minutes faster thau that oi: tho second man.
