GERMAN TARIFF LAW.

WEAPON IN TREATY NEGOTIA-

TIONS

(Received March 6, 0.35 a.m.)

Berlin, March 5

Herr Sydow, speaking in the Prussian Diet, reiterating Herr Delbrueck's speech, said other countries forced the revision of treaties. The question of the new tariff law to give Germany a weapon with which to negotiate new treaties and remove existing blemishes was becoming a burning one. The preliminary work was progressing to enable Germany to face the situation.

Herr Delbrueck, Secretary for the Interior, speaking in the Reichstag on January 22nd, said the existing protective duties must be maintained. German agriculture in particular must keep its present protection, and there was no occasion for Germany to denounce any of the 1906. commercial treaties.
