The parish priest at Stuhlwdsscnt- irq, near Budapest, wrote an article in a clerical journal .accusing two v/orncn of shoplifting. A lieutenant, a relative of the young women, horsewhipped the priest in the stx-cet. The , 'Ung women then prosecuted the {■•nest for libel, but were awarded only £3 damages, as the judge said that the fuiblic horsewhipping was sufficient X :inishmeut. They appealed to another court, whore the fine was inincreased to £48. A higher - court has tiovv increased the punishment by a tiifinth's imprisonment, on the ground 'that relatives of officers may not Jh> -t:;sqlfced with impunity." :
