Mr. Peart spoke of Mr. Harris in connectioH with education, more especially as chairman of the school committee for many years. He, too, wished them all a happy future.

Mr. Harris, in'reply,-said he knewj there was to be a social for them, and it would be but false modesty to say otherwise. He wished, on behalf or Mrs. Harris, his family, and himself to thank all present, and all who had assisted for their handsome present, j He believed he valued the audience -more, than the present,' but he would always regard it as one of his treasures. What any of them had done j was simply a labour of love. From the bottonj jof his heart he regretted j leaving Wak'efield. He had travelled j over the four quarters of the globe, but he had never lived in a better place. Wakefield was one of the finest places on earth. .He advised them all to werk harmoniously and for the good of the whole district, not Wakefield only, to give a hearty welcome to strangers, for they saw. the improvements needed better than old residents ; to value their "schools and the education given therein. He knew the want of education. He said he had two things to always remind him of happy Wakefield—a son and daughter born there. Finally he added: "Wherever we may go we shall always be delighted to meet Wakefield people." (Applause.) ■Supper was handed round, and dancing kept up till late, the gathering ending in the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." ; -..- -•■•■■■ : ■■•■•; - , ,
