DEFENDANT RETRACTS AND

APOLOGISES

A GENEROUS PLAINTIFF

(Received June 2, 0.30 a.m.) New York, Juno 1. The editor, George Newott, retracted the libel on Mr Roosevelt published in the newspaper "Iron Ore," and apologised in court. Mr Roosevelt asked the jury to givo him nominal damages, and the jury awarded him six cents, complying with Mr Roosevelt's request.

Under the Michigan law Mr Roosevelt has to bear his own costs of the trial. ■
