This morning as the Public Works train was coming down an incline from No. 2 State mine withj'ourtcsn trucks containing 120 tons of'coal, .tho large Co-ton \\.li. engine, recently placed on the lino,'failed "to hold the- train, ,111 spite of all tho brake* being jammed on. Engine-driver Gray and Eiroman i'ord stuck to the train until the engine reached -a dead end. They then jumped clear, and escaped without injury. Tho engine struck tho bank, and turned over. Two trucks wore damaged. The engine was formerly on tho iiimutaka- and requires a centra- rail, which is not yet in position.'
