- A Rome cable announces the death of Signora.Rosa Sarto, eister of the Pope.

A Melbourne cable, states that the Chapman-Alexander mission party are passengers by the Moeraki.

The Governor, arrived at Blenheim at mid-day yesterday. He was accorded a civic welcome and entertained by the Borough Council at lunch. Afterwards he attended the garden fete of the Blenheim Beautifying Society.

The Gisborne papers announce the celebration of the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs John Townley on February sth. Mr Townley was for a number of yeans mayor of Gisborne. He came to New Zealand in 1863, and,is a member :Of at well known. ■ pld: : liancaster family.
