The annual meeting of the parishioners of tho Christ Church parish was held in the Shelbourne street Sunday school last evening, the Rev. J. P. Kempthorne presiding over a fair attendance. The annual report and balance sheet wore submitted. The reports were as follows :—

REPORT.

The Churchwardens' and Vestry in thojr annual report also referred to the resignation of their esteemed and much loved Bishop, and reminded the parishioners that it would be their duty to welcome the new Bishop, whom they hoped would bo consecrated in the Cathedral. The generous gift to the parish of the cost of the additions dnd repairs to the Parish Hall (hitherto the Sholbourne street Sunday school) and the thanks of the parishioners w-ero due to the donor (Mrs. Richmond, senior) who had added this to many previous and generous gifts, to the Parish. Reference was made to the envelope system of payment for church sittings, and jto the system adopted by the, Synod o)' j assessing each parish or district at'the amount it is expected to contribute to tho G-eneral Church Fund. The assessment of. their parish was £38, and not only was this assessment mob, but largely exceeded, £70 having been contributed. Tlie Ladies' Guild had contributed £140 towards tho cost of the recent overhaul of the organ, and great thanks vrere; due to the ladies of the Guild, headed by Mrs. Stevens, for their efforts. Reference was made to the'eomDar.itionß of the organist (Mr G. F.Naylor), whose hymn tunes were popular with the congregation. Thanks wore tendered to all the Church workers.

THE VICAR'S REPORT

Tho Vicar (Rev. J. P. for him, and that ho had folt compelled to retire. The hope was expressed that las they intended to continue to reside in the district, that'both he- and Mrs. Mulos would, continue to help and further every good work. During th© year there weio 17 baptisms (7 being of adult age), 35 persons confirmed, 11 msrriiiG:cs, 13 burials and 27 celebrations of the Holy Communion, with 1800 communicants. The Parish owed a debt of gratitude to the late Mrs. Richmond, oenr., for her great kindness m enlarging the schoolroom in Shelbourno street.-.which: was now fitted up'"with conveniences for social gatherings. Tho "Vicar repressed his thanks to the Sunday school teachers for their assistance, to tho Ladies' Guild, the Flower Guild, and the Churchwardens and Vestry, and to the organist and choir.

Referring to the report 'and balancesheet, Mr. W. Heaps, the People's Churchwarden, said it was very satisfactory to note that the offertories for the past year were a record, also that the amount raised by the Ladies' Guild in connection with the organ fund, £140, was likewise a record.

In moving the adoption of both statevnients, Mr. A. T. Maginnity remarked 1 hat they revealed a very satisfactory : tate of affairs, and showed that coiisicfi rable progress had been made during the year.

Mr. J. C. Mercer seconded the nio(ion, and the report and balance sheet wore adopted..'

Before proceeding with tho election of officers, the chairman announced that ■Mr. W. Heaps intended to resign the position of .'People's Clmrcliwarcien. The church was very much indebted to the retiring warden for the manner in ivhieh he had carried out his duties. H<r felt that his age and the attention herequired for other matters rendered hi:; resignation necessary. Mr. Heaps said that tho Vicar I'n/.I expressed his. sentiments. The duties should be carried out by a younger imiii, but ho hoped that this'would be done m an honorous capacity. Tho following officers were then elected : People's Churchwarden. Mr. A. O. Maginnity; Vicar's Churchwarden. Mr. W. Thompson; Vestry Messrs. J. C. Mercer. F. H. Richmond, J. F.! Frith, J. Hou'ker, W. Heaps R. T. Moliu::rh, Cnckburn, T. Eastcott, H. Trent, L. Maginnity j auditor, Mr. Bamford. Votes of thanks were passed to tho ivLowing: Tho organist and choir; "liss Maginnity, for collecting pa,; rents;'the Flower Guild; Ladies' "C-uiki: *-!'. Bamford, the auditor; Sunday rchool superintendent and teachers : the College boys, for contribution to 'mission funds, and for interest in the Church service; the retiring officers a:id Vestry.

Feeling reference was made by tho Chairman, and Messrs Maginnitv and Heaps.to +he death of Mrs. Richmondl, senr., arid Mr. Kingsley, diocesan e<:c rotary.

The following motions were carrlcvl standing:—

"That this meeting of parishioners desires to place on record its sense of tho loss the parish has sustained in the death of Mrs. Richmond, senr., who in a special and consistent way has been foi a long period a friend of tho parish. "That the parishioners of the Chrirt Church Parish desire to express their deep sonse of loss in tho death of Mr. R ; i. Kingsley, and to convey to his widow their sincere condolence with her in her great affliction."

It was decided to ask Mr. G. F. Naylor, the organist, to give ?.n organ recital next month, and others at subsequent dates.

It was resolved to alter the timo «•' starting the evening services fiom 7 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. on Sundays.

At a subsequent meeting to elect. Synodsmen, the following were appoinro'd:" Messrs. F. H. Richmond, W. Thompson and W. Heaps.
