Arrangements have been made with a number of'orchardists by Mr. Harry Atmore M.P., to send samples of apples grown in the Moutere Hills to Wellington for the ncixt Cabinet meeting, when the application for a grant for the construction of tho road from Appleby to the Moutero mudflnt extension road will trome np for consideration.

The Mayor (Mr. T. A. H. Field) and Mr A. A. Lucas (president of the Chamber of Commerce) waited upon the Hon. G. Laurenson yesterday afternoon, and expressed their great pleasure at welcoming a second member of the new Ministry to Nelson.

Advantage was taken by Mr. James Hunt, Mayor of Richmond, of the- visit of the Minister for Labour, to bring under his notice the necessity for a stationmaster at Richmond. The, Hon. Mr. Laurenson said that he would lay the matter before the Minister for Railways

"A follow, could keqp pretty dry if he kept his umbrella up," was tho remark passed by the Hon. W. D. S. Macdonald, Minister for Public Works, when he was shown the leaky condition of the Nelr.on railway station by Mr. Harry Atmore, M.P., on -Saturday. The Minister evidently appreciated the necessity for.a new station.

At last night's annual meeting of tho Christ Church parishioners a hearty, vote of thanks was passed to the organist, Mr. G. F. Naylor, and to the choir. A special effort is now being made io supplement the strength of the choir, with a view to working up special music for the installation of the Bishop-elect Canon ■ Sadlier. ,
