ALLEGED WHOLESALE THEFTS OF TIMBER.

Dunedin, May 8. ■ At the Police Court to-day before Mr Bartholomew, S.M.j two brothers named Jas. Alexander Greig and Peter Henry Greig, carters, were charged with tho theft of timber valued at £<% the property of Messrs Hogg and Co. Peter Greig was further charged with the theft of timber valued at '£84 17s, tho property of Messrs Hogg and Co. Evidence for the prosecution was that the accused loaded timber at the wharf, but instead of delivering it in Messrs. Hogg and Co.'s yard they sold it to various people. Both of the accused reserved his defence, and were committed for trial. Bail was allowed, Jas Greig in his own recognisance for £100, and two sureties of £50 each. Peter Groig was allowed bail in his own recognisance of £200 on the first charge, and £200 with the addition of two sureties of £100 each on the second charge.
