COLLISION OF TRAM CARS.

Auckland, May 7.

Two trams collided when going up Wellesley street which is a fairly steep grade, this evening. The motorman of the foremost car sustained very severe cuts on his face. Apparently a short circuit occurred in the control box of the leading car, and it commenced to run back. Tlie moforman, named Saunders, unable to handle tho brakes in the forward portion of-the car, through an electrical blaze, promptly ran to the rear, and applied the brakes. A collision, however, was inevitable, and both cars were badly damaged. Saunders being injured as stated. His promptitude in applying the brakes prevented' a more serious accident, as both cars were filled with passengers, all of whom wero thrown from their seats by tho. impact.
