DEATH OF NOTED EX-OFFICIAL.

The death occurred at his residence in Wellington to-night of Mr H. S. Warj.dell, aged 82 years. Deceased came from England to New Zealand in 1855, andhe was appointed .'as Resident Magistrate in that,:■ year." He became a Pis>trict Judge in 1861, retiring in 18S8. Deceased was many years president of the New eZalar.d Academy of Fine Arts. He was chairman of the Police Commission in 1898. and he was a member of the North Eland Representation' Commission.
