At Port Chalmers tho Rangitira loaded 114 bags of scheelite for transport to the London market. From a quantity point of view this is a very small item_ (says the Dunedin "Star"), but when it is recollected that the product is valued at anything from £60 to £120 per ton, it does not appear so insignificant. The principal* scheelite mines in New Zealand are situated at the head of Lake Wakatipu, where a large number of men earn" a livelihood during the summer months by searching for tho precious substance. In tho winter, however, the bulk of the claims are unworkable owing to th'e'height at which they are situated and the consequent intense cold. The postal authorities advise us that tho name of tho Tumanako Post Office has been changed to the original name of Glenhope. A considerable commotion arosci on the cab stand yesterday morning, when two horses became restive, and after smashing the harness fell down. Other horses then threatened to become unmanageable, and the animals in the water cart moved off hurriedly, but what appeared to be» the commencement of a bolt was arrested before any damage was done.
