THE SYDNEY WHARF LABOURERS.

PORT LOSING TRADE. (Received Jan IG, 9.20 p.m.) Sydney, Jan 16. A deputation asked Mr Beeb.v to see that tho wharf labourers obeyed the award. It was stated that owing to inability to get vessels loaded in the hours the labourers chose to work Sydney was losing a trade which had token it long to build up. Mr Beeby regretted the labourers' action, but said both sides wore to blame. The companies fought against granting an increased rate yet the men wero granted tho increase at Melbourne. If tho owners were more candid the results would bo different. He hoped soon to pass an' amending Act to enable him to deal with similar difficulties. Past efforts had been spoiled by opponents endeavouring to make political capital out of them.
