Creymouth, Dec. 10.

The head men on the maintenance department, workshops, wharves and others not engaged in running trains on polling day, received a circular telling the men to cease work at noon on polling day. They mado preparations accordingly, and at 11.40 on Thursday a verbal message was sent to the foreman of the wharf repairing gang saying that work was to continue till 1 o'clock. The men declined as they had worked from six to suit the tide. Next morning thirteen, including three permanent men were suspended and are still not working.
