THE SYDNEY WHARF LABOURERS.

A CONCILIATION BOARD

Sydney, Nov 11

The renewed trouble about tho ovortime question has interfered with tho appointment of the board directed by Mr Carmichaol last week to deal with the wharf labourers' strike. Mr L'armichael states that ho has got tho parties so far in agreement that they are willing to submit certain matters in dispute to a tribunal. The appointment of the board had therefore lieon ordered, and probably it would i/O constituted on Monday.

A meeting of shipowners decided to ignoro the men's action in knocking off at 5 o'clock and to stand by the agreement ponding the Court's inquiry. Meantime, if tho men remain recalcitrant no overtimo work will be done.

Owing to the strike large quantities of wheat, tea, and dried fruits, intended for Queensland ports, where the shortage is beginning to bo keenly felt, are blacked. Tho steamship owners and the Wharf Labourers' Union have nominated representatives to tho proposed Conciliation Board. On behalf of the former counsel argued that no genuine dispute existed, that a section of the waterside workers got out .of hand and wanted to over rido not only the employers but tlieir own officials. It was'suggested that if the matter was allowed to come to a vote the trouble might be overcome.
