DR MAWSON'S EXPEDITION

Dr Mawson is still £9000 short of the sum required for his Antarctic expedition, the total promised, including stores, amounting to a little over £40,000. Dr Mawson, speaking bor'oro a Hoyal Society reception, said lie had not great anxiety over the deficit, because he thought that certain States which had not yet contributed would do so when they saw what good work was being done. The Japanese Vice-Consul, replying to the toast of "Success to the Japanese Expedition," referred to tho brotherhood of science which made no discrimination in raco or colour, all having ono common aim, tho advancemont of humanity.
