COLLINGWOOD COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting of the Collmgwood County Council was held on Monday, the 6th inst. Present, the Chairman' (Cr Buchanan), and Crs Walker, James, Fish, Washbourne and Riley. It was rosolved that the balancesheet lia on the table for consideration after the meeting in order that Councillors may have a chance to go through it. Cr Washbourne, who dissented, thought that no time should be lost in having it printed.

The Council went into committee to discuss internal workings, and remained in committee until mid-day, the ordinary meeting being resumed after lunch.

Cr Riley tendwred his resignation, which' was received with regret.

Cr Riley then vacated his chair. Cr Flowers' action in signing a legal document was ratified.

Accounts amounting to £177 were held over until funds were available.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that £97 19s 5d was available as road thirds.

The Public Works Department asked for information in reference to Jeffries' road at Bainham.—Resolved that the. information be sent.

Mr P. McCaffrey wrote re Pakawau foot bridges, stating that he had finished this work, but it had cost more than he anticipated by £10 8s 9d.

The Minister for Mines and Public Works advised that he had considered the representations made by the Council and decided as follows:—Collingwood Heaphy track to Karamea: In view of the circumstances of this case he had approved the issue of authority for £100 to the Council to reimburse it for the work carried out owing to a misunderstanding. Aorere bridge contract (additional loan) :-He had ascertained from the Treasury that the additional loan of £175 was approved' on the 12th ultimo, and the Council advised accordingly. Onekaka bridge.: £200 was provided on the current year's estimates for this work and had already been offered to the Council for expenditure. Takaka-Collingwood inland road: The £400 provided on the current year's estimates had already been offered the Council. Kaituna- Patarau track: This item was provided for on the roads to goldfields class. The amount offered to tha Council was £350 clear, so that the £112 referred to by the Council did not come into consideration at all. With reference to a survey there should be no difficulty in. the acceptance of the survey carried out under Mr Sadd's direction.

The County Engineer (Mr Blake) reported as follows: Maintenance.— Since the last meeting of your Council a great amount of repairs have been effected to roads and bridges. Tho gravelling at James' by road cutting is finished at a cost of £12 10s. The bridge on the main road near Mr James' has been renewed and one in the vicinity of the Swamp road has been redecked. A number of small bridgcte in the Bainham district have received attention. The foot bridges on the Pakawau road have been erected by the dayman, who has been fully employed in effecting repairs generally.
