Ohristchureh, March 19. People are Beginning to take some ilttle interest in politics, and.already t;hij names of probable candidates at the general election arc being spoken of. A requisition is being largely signctd asking Mr J. D. Hall (a son of the late Mr John Hall, a City Councillor and chairman of the Fire Board, and a. member of several other local organisations) to contest the Christchurch North seat against Mr T. E. Taylor. The general opinion is that ho will comply with the request, in which case the contest will be full of interest. It is stated that Mr T. H. Dayey will be opposed by either Mr J. 'l\ Mbßri4e or Mr J. MeCombes (Prohibitionist) for Christchurch East. tip to the present only the Labour candidate is. spoken df against Mr Ell for the South seat, and who he is to be is not known. For Lyttelton it is understood that Mi- Laurenson will again be opposed1 by Dr. Thacker. No candidate is announced for Avon against Mr G. W. BusseM, but it is stated that ]\ir W; W. Tanner contemplates offering himself for the seat. Things are politically quiet in the Riccarton electorate, and no one is spoken of at prcisent as likely to disturb Mr G. Witty's peace of mind. Possibly Mr Massey's approaching visit may still further snake up the dry bones of polities in Canterbury.
