London, March 15. The Army report for 1910 sh.o.vs that there were 7403 fewer recruits.to the regular forces in 1909, and ,)U.i fewer special reservists. In the House of Commons General Pole-Carow, Unionist member for Bodmfn? attacked General Sir lan Hamilton's book on compulsory .service. Ho said that he had had considerable experience of Genera Hamilton and his book was like him. He had been flighty and unreliable, and tho. book had been written chiefly to sell and for advertisement, and incidentally tor tho satisfaction of the Minister of Mr Haldane, Secretary for War, indignantly protested that tho book had not been written to order, and said that General Hamilton's chivalry was above anything of that sort. Mr H. B. Lees Smith, Liberal member for Northampton, has given notice of motion in the House of Commons that Mr McKenna, First Lord of the. Admiralty, was guilty of a breach of the confidence of the House of Commons in having four contingent Dreadnoughts laid down.
