THE BUTCHERS' AWARD.

Wellington, March 9. Mr. ('. \V. Aldridgu, luupef-tor of Awards, proceeded against sever:l.-', muster butchers in the Magistrate's Court to-day: for • breaches" of the butchers' award. Dr. McArthur, S.M., presided. W. Woolland did not appear to answer the charge that he committed a broach of the butchers' award in tliat lie engaged a non-union-ist when unionists weiv available.

IJis Worship said the defendant was foolish not to come and make an explanation. A fine of £2 was inflicted.

AY. Collyor, butclicr, Kilburnic, for whom Mr. Anderson appeared, was charged with a similar breach of the saw .award. It was alleged that on the loth January defendant engaged a non-unionist'named Thus. Brown, when there were, unionists available. Kvident'i! to this effect was given. Mr .Anderson stated that the. d'lemlant had applied to the Union for :i man, .and one »vns sent, but he ])nived unsuitable. The man defendant employed, whose name was Brown, had been out of employment for sonic time and was a married man. He asked tor work and he was given the job. Collyer Mould willingly have paid Brawn's entrance to the Union had lie known his circumstances.

His Worship inflicted a penalty of -J's with 20s for witnesses' expends' Collyer, he said, should hnve consulted the employment book of the Union again.
