The University College Council has approved of the report and recommendations of the Bpecial committee, expressing hearty approval; of the proposal to establish a Conseryatorium of Music in the Domiiiion, and readiness to undertake the management qf tho Cotiservatorium. in conpection with, its present School of Musio, provided the government granted suitable assistance for equipment and maintenance. !pr Thbmas estimated that with 200 students the cost of maintaining the in stitution- would-be £2500 ' yearly and increase- io* £4200 j but it wag pointed out that at the Adelaide Conservatorium, probably the finest in Australasia, attendance in 1908, was 336, tho receipts from students £2634, and the expenditure £3631, showing a loss of £1000 on the year.
