TELEPHONE DEBIT NOTES.

Inveroargill, April. 19. A large and representative meeting of business men of Invercargill was held to-day for the' purpose taking united action with regard to the system which tfie Government proposes to adopt in connection with the issue of telephone debit notes. Mr J. Crosby Smith, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, presided over what was in effect an indignation meeting of telephone subscribers. Mr Smith briefly stated the position, and outlined what had heen done so far in the way of protest. A resolution "was carried unanimously protesting against the change of issuing monthly debit notes for the amounts charged for bureau calls, in lieu of daily notes. The business people strongly object to the proposed change. . .-■• ■
