THE OFFICES TO BE SEPARATED

Wellington, April 19. Mr Richard Carter, the Secretary and Inspector of Customs, who took the position a year ago upon Mr- Glasgow's retirement, is retiring shortly upon a pension. The position of Secretary to the Customs will then be filled by_ Mr W. B. Montgomery, at present chief clerk in the head office. It is the Government's intention to separate the offices of Secretary and Inspector of Customs formerly associated. The inspectorship is to be given to Mr C. S. Nixon, who will continue to hold the position of Collector at Wellington! This arrangement will enable the Secretary to devote the whole of his to administrative work at headquarters.
