THE MAYORALTY.

(To tho Editor of ".The Colonist.") Sir, — I notice in your report that Mr Pettit stated, "Mr Piper had been one of the loudest in declaring the (Mayoral) office should be a rolling one." I give this an absolute denial. I never used words that could be construed into such a thing. Besides, it was contra to my practice. After the late Mr Trask was elected I assisted as much as anj' man could do . in keeping him in the rest of his time, nine years. Never once did I advocate the mayor office should be a | rolling one and why, because it is ah elective office. It is for the people to say who shall hold that office. I am, etc., J. PIPER.
