The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Mr Riscly, Sheriff, and Mr Bartlett, President of the Chamber of Commerce, welcomed Sir George Reid, the Australian High Commissioner, and Captain Co'lins on Wednesday (says a London cable), and motored with him through the Mendip country. The party on Thursday visited Avonmouth Docks and lunched at the Mansion House with 60 of the principal merchants and manufacturers. A Palmerstou North press wire states that private information was received there yesterday of the death at Rotorua of Mrs Frank Waldegrave, wife of the Under-Secretary for Justice. ■ At Wellington the late Sergeant W. Hedge was given a military funeral, which was attended by a number of veterans. He was a wearer of the North-West frontier medal. The death is announced at Takaka of Mrs Salisbury, the wife of Mr A. G. Salisbury, dentist.". The Hon. Hamilton and Mrs Gilmer, of AVelliugton, have left for a trip to England. . A Press Association message states that 'the Governor will pay a final visit to Palmerston North on May 13th, when the citizens "will signalise the event. A Press Association message from Gisborne states that Sir Joseph and Lady Ward left' last night for Napier. The Hon James Carroll remains at Gisborne for a few days, and the Hon R. McKenzie is expected there on Monday.
