FAREWELL TO THE MAYOR.

This' being the last meeting over which the present Mayor would preside, Cr Hunt moved— That this Council desires to place on record itstleep regret that his Worship has found it necessary, owing to his removal from the district, to sever his connection, with the' Council, and- its- deep sense of the valuable services he"has renderad for many years past both as a councillor and as Mayor, which «ffice he had ably filled with credit to -himself and much advantage to the Council. . - Cr Coleman seconded the motion, speaking warmly of the kindly arid impartial manner in which 'Mr Sheat hatTpresided over the business of the Council, and wishing i.hiifa every happiness and prosperity In the future. ' Each of the other Councillors present added a few other words of cordial endorsement, and the motion was carried ■ The Mayor very feelingly responded. He could not help feeling sad at the thought of leaving. Richmond, where he was born, and the Council with which ho had been associated from the beginning. He thanked them heartily for the kind ( words just expressed, andj for their uniform kindness and, consideration to himself in the past, so that it had been a pleasure to preside over- their meetings. Cr Bell moved that tho Mayor be ' requested to allow a photograph of himself to be taken, with a view of an enlargement of the same being framed and hung in th<j Council chamber. j Cr Hunt seconded, and the motion was put by the Town Clerk, and carried unanimously.
