HASSAN, THE INDIAN MAGICIAN

To-night at the Theatre Royal, Hassan, the Indian magician, supported by a strong vaudeville company, will commence a three nights' season. Of Hassan's performance a Sydney exchange says :— -"The programme at tho Tivoli Theatre was strengthened on Saturday by the addition of an Indian magician named Hassan. Hassan is billed as the direct descendant of a family of Hassans, whose secrets have been handed down from generation to generation for over 300 years. His performance was interesting because of his so closely following tlie Chinese magic worker. Chung Ling Soo is a silent exponent of the mysterious art of producing things from nowhere, and -as magically 'returning, them to thy.same;^indcfinable and limitless realm; Hassan, on the contrary, has almost asniuch to say as a paid poli-tician-proclaiming propaganda. But while ho is talking he keeps busy, and presents a smart turn. His cardchanging feats are very clever, whil© the way in wliich he produced trom an apparently miscellaneously loaded interior a variety of articles, including many yards of coloured ribbon, and something approaching ;a small keg of nails, and then converted himself into a sort of human fireworks display, was, in common with the other features of his clever turn, loudly applauded.- He makes articles disappear, reappear, and multiply, with graceful ease>;-destfoys things by :fire, aud from' -the rushes : -reconstructs *them ; and concludes- his ormance by lifting a 51b weight by his eyelids. His reception on Saturday was a sure indication of popularity." Seats may be reserved at Jackson's.
