[United Pbess Association.] |. . , ' Dunedin, March 27. A bush fire oni Saturday afternoon caused considerable damage at Kaka Point (which "is a holiday resort between the Nuggets and Port Molyne- | aux). A high wind swept the fire through the bush arid destroyed the houses belonging to Dr Fitzgerald (Kaitangata), I. Helps (Dunedin) and Algie Bros (Balclutha). A 12 roomed house and a store belonging to G. and J. Smith caught fire- two or three times, and was only saved by the gallant efforts, of a number .of., willing helpe-rs, but the stables were destroyed. According to. the- latest reports the. wind changed suddenly, thereby averting further serious- damage. The fire is supposed to have originated in a moss bank in .the hush behind Kaka Point, arid, the gale caused it to spread so rapidly that very little could bo done to check its progress. Through the bush several holiday cottages were situated. Tho amount of the damage has not yet been ascertained.
