The "Argus" is informed that it is highly probable that Mr Felix McGuire will be pressed to offer himself as a candidate for Patea at the next general elections. The death occurred at tho Napier Hospital on Saturday of Dr Appel, veterinary surgeon, aged 83 years, a resident of Napier for the past seventeen years. A Press Association message from Wellington states that Dr Sidney H. j Hay, who took his degree at the Otago University, has been appointed as house surgeon and assistant medical officer at the Rotorua Sanatorium. Mr James Hair, district secretary of the A.M.P. Society, leaves on Thursday for a holiday visit to Australia. Mr E. J. ' A highly esteemed Mataura Island i young lady, Miss Hettie Graham, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs John Graham, who has for some time been prominently identified with missionary movements, has decided i;o devote lierself to- active service in the foreign field. Towards that end (says the Wyndham "Farmer") she has entered the Training College at Dunedin to qualify herself in nursing duties. It is stated Sir William Russell will leave for England by_ the s.s. Rimutaka. He has not been well lately.
