On, Saturday morning, at the Magistrate's Court, a man named Archie McPhee was lined £1 or in default 48 hours' imprisonment for helpless drunkenness, by Mr J. S. Expenses amounting to between £8 and £9 were incurred in connection with McPhee's arrest, treatment, and detention, but the Magistrate said it was useless making an order in regard to these. The first election under the Hospitnl and Charibabte Institutions* Act, 1909, for five members to represent the Waimea and Murchison Counties on the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, will take place on Wednesday, March 16th. Nominations will be received up till Wednesday, 9th March, at the Waimea County office, Nelson. Each nomination paper must be signed by two electors and by the candidate, and evefry candidate at the time of nomination shall deposit £3 with the. returning officer. On Thursday last Mr Thomas- Hunt, of "Wantwood," Wakefield, shipped by the Pateena twenty-fivo choice Romney Marsh stud rams for a flock owner in the North Island.
