L United Pbess Association.] Wellington, Feb 21. The annual meeting of the Now Zealand branch of tho British Medical Association is being held here this week. The proceedings opened tonight with a soiree, at which the Presidential address was delivered by Dr James A. Purdy, of the Lower Hutt. Among the large company of guests j was Sir John Batty Tuke, the well known specialist in the treatment of mental diseases, who arrived from London by. the steamer Tainui on Saturday. The retiring president, Dr T. Moore, of Napier, introduced' to the gathering the president elect, Dr Purdy. After extending a cordial welcome to the visitors Dr Pirrdy proceeded to discuss tho formation of a national type in New Zealand.
