George Cato was charged by H. Cleland, Inspector of Noxious \Yeeds, with having failed to clear his lanci at Takaka of blackberries.
Defendant pleaded guilty,
Mr Cleland said the property • was in a very bad state, and the worst feature was that the adjoining neighbour had done considerable cleaning and had his land cultivated, whilst Cate's blackberries were pushing through the boundary fence. Gate had done nothing, and had taken no heed of the notice sent to him.
Defendant pleaded that sickness in his family had prevented him fi-om clearing-the land, as it was ten miles from his home.
The Inspector said under these circumstances he would only ask for the miuimum penalty.
His Worship pointed out that the Inspector's instructions must be carried out, but as the Inspector did not press for a heavy penalty, a tine of 10s would be inflicted, with 7s costs, but the work must bo done immediately.
