AUSTRALIA V. AUCKLAND.

The match between the Australian and Auckland representative cricket elevens was commenced to-day in line but dull weather, a few inches of rain falling at one period of the afternoon. The rain of overnight had deadened the wicket and when Armstrong, the Australian captain, won the toss, he decided to send the Auckland . team in to bat. The wicket was sticky, and Whitty got to work iv real earnest, having an average of 8 wickets for 127 runs when the innings closed. Relf made 51 runs by risky methods, giv-i ing several chances. Hadden was the next best in point of numbers, making ; 17. The wicket was improving when < the Australians went in to bat. Bardsley was caught and bowled by Relf before scoring. Mayne (32 not out) and simpson (30) made most of the runs. The Australians, score when the stumps were drawn was 72 for 3 wickets. Olliff took two wickets for 10 runs.
