CORRESPONDENCE.

[Tho Editor does not necessarily identify himself with the opinions expressed by his correspondents.] URGENT REFORMS. (To the Editor of "The Colonist."') Sir,— Now the Hon. Goorge Fowlds is in Nelson the opportunity should be taken to urge his attention to matters which have from time to time cropped up. In your reports of the monthly meetings of the Hospital and Chant--able Aid Board at different times mention, fias been made of the Board strongly protesting against those svuIfering from delirium tremens being sent to the Hospital. It is downright disgraceful that tho sick and the nurses should bo endangered Uicl. frightened' by raving maniacs. The public have cried shame upon it. In Nelson the difficulty could easily be overcome "by a padded cell being provided at the police gaol or police station. While admitting, -delirium iremen patients should Be mercifuilv dealt with, they should not be placed in the Hospital to add to the. distress and sufferings of the afflicted. _ Another matter is, to have the w altered so as to give Charitable Aid Boards the power to remove childrenfrom bad surroundings. Crime ras been committed by those brought up in such surroundings; -and anotner danger is that by keeping children with parents who are not doing their t.uty as such, we are creating for the future a class of paupers of the worst kind, namely, professional paupers.— l am, etc ' J TAXPAYER.
