KING MANUEL'S QUEEN.

A good deal of speculation is going oil j in Portugal as to who is to be Kiilg Manuel's Queen. Already quite a number . of royal" ladies have been mentioned as likely candidates for the honour ; but according to a very good authority, the young monarch has, a will of his own, and has declared his intention of wedding some day a lady of his own choosing, who is not regarded very favourably by the Queen mother and the Court generally. It seems that his "Majesty has for long shown great affection for a young giri< belonging . to an aristocratic but non regal Portuguese family whose mother is a lady in waitingto Queen Amelie. Some time ago , Queen- Amelia was conversing with a high and trusted Court official about the desirability of the King forming an alliance. Standing near, his Majesty overheard the drift of the conversation, and suddenly declared to them his love for the young Jady in question. "I will, marry her or nobody," he said. .'Of course the Queen mother expostulated, but the boy monarch was obdurate; News of the little disturbance leaked out, and now the people of Portugal are waiting somewhat anxiously for results.
