UNIVERSITY OF TOKIO. Among the numerous developments which have taken place during the past 40 years or so in Japan none,are more interesting than that of the University of'Tokio, which, in many respects, is one of the' best-equipped institutions of tne lvincl-in esisteuce. The palendar for 1907-S (says ihe "N.Z. Herald") is a bulky volume, containing _a great deal of information which will be read with interest by all connected with the practical work of education. The latest figures show that there were 274 members of .the teaching, staff, consisting of 121 professors, 64 assistant professors, 73 irstructors, and lfi foreign professors and instructors, while the number of ordinary students was 4393, besides 808 graduates, who were continuing their studies in special departments. . Tho University consists of six colleges of law, medicine, engineering, literature, science, , and agriculture.
