FIRES.
A BOARDING HOUSE DESTROYED ' [United Press Association.] Wellington, March 30. About one o'clock this morning, ivliile a wintry storm was sweeping over -the city, a -fire broke out in a. boarding house in Taranaki PlaCO, owned by Mr T. W.. Hislop, and occupied by Mr William Brown, who had between 30 and 40 boarders, who lost everything except the scanty attire in which ' they escaped. The building was destroyed, and much damage was also done to John Rigg and' Co.'s chocolate and confectionery factory during the strenuous fight to prevent the fire demolishing a whole block in the heart of the city. Several firemen . received minor injuries. The boarding house was insured for £500 in the Commercial Union office, and for £500 in the Liverpool and London and Globe office. '- The contents were insured for £500 in the New Zealand office. Mr Rigg's premises' were insured for ■£1250 in the Commercial Union, and £250. in the Standard, and tho contents for £4000 in various offices.
