''The Times" says that Germany has taken advantage of Russia's unpreparedness to put a pistol to her head and compe Iher to abandon her traditional policy in the Near East. • The !Tall Mall Gazette" comments oh the spectacle of a Hague 'Peace Conference constrained to condone a glaring illegality under threat of instantf war. The .paper adds, that Berlin has supported Vienna in order that the Teuton and not Slav influence may prevail in south-eastern Europe. It is a repayment for Austria's help- at the Algeciras Conference, and? demonstrates that .Germany's isolation may prove costly to those Powers r which refuse to become tools of Gorman policy."
