WAKEFIELD AND DISTRICT ■ NOTES. _ (From Our Own Correspondent.) '], -The committee of the Waimea Horticultural; and Industrial Association met on Friday evening last to consider tho question, as to whether, under the circumstances, it would be advisable to hold their annual autumn show this year. .. After some discussion it was decided that owiug to the fact that several similar shows would be held in adjoining districts within the next month or two^ it would be advisable to hold off until the spring. This decision only applies to ; the present year, as the Association have no intention of abandoning the autumn show in the future. . - Next Saturday a cricket, match of a-i especially interesting characte> will be played in the Wakefield Domain, between teams representing the local Lodge- of Oddfellows and_ Druids respectively. These matches are always well atetnded, as everyone present is sure of a pleasant -and amusing time, the match being of the most friendly character, with plenty of : banter to keep things lively. The_ evening is generally spent at a card" party or smoke concert. . The half-yearly meeting of the Wakefield Juvenile Lodge of Oddfellows was held on Wednesday evening last, Bro. Robert Eden, N:G., presiding. Bro. G. Johnson, Superintendent, and other adult members were present, also a goodly number of ju» veniles. The officers for the ensuing half year were elected as follows: — N.G. Bro. T. J. Eden, V.G. Bro. R. G. Tunnieliffe, E. S. Bro. A. Johnson, (Guardian). Bro. E. E. ; Eden, . (Warden)»Bro; T. Russ, Supporters to N;G. Eros. A. Ching and R. Thomas, Supporters to V.G. Bros. W. Ricketts and A. Jenkins.' Since the lodge was established five years ago, over 20 members have been transferred to the adult lodge. The number on the roll now stands at 35. The anniversary of the lodge will be celebrated at an early date, suitable arrangements being now under consideration. The boj's appear to take a Very deep interest in the work of the lodge, under the capable management of Bro. G. Johnson, the Superintendent. The late, rains have been of universal benefit to the country. The growth following, has been remarkable. The country looks as green" as if spring has' set in again ; in fact there is considerably more growth than in the spring. Present conditions must suit all those who are engaged in pastoral as well as agricultural pursuits.
