New Plymouth, March 24. Glorious weather favoured the first day's racing. The results were:— Kawaroa Handicap Hack Hurdles: Speciosa 1, Whimper 2, Waimana 3. Also started— Sweet Alice, Somati, Golden Show and Taupp. Speciosa finished an easy winner. ■ ■„ Stewards' Handicap: Kareroa 1, bt. Maria 2, Mon Ami 3. Also started— Cyrene, Genuine, Waihuku, Tekauharangi. Larigshan, and Clonpett. Won by two and a' half lengths. Pukaka Hack Handicap : Clemoro I, Burton 2, Shannon Lass 3. Also started—Tanehaka, Mulga Bill. Hydraulic, Durability, Quick March, Faida, arid Freevata. Won by a long neck. Taranaki Cup Handicap: Waitapa 1, Mahuta 2, Belario 3. Also started — Kilmarnock, Tan San, Uhlando, Tip Toe, Sir Artegal. Vasa, Taitoko, Chanteuese- and Whetumarama. Won by over three lengths/ First< Welter Handicap: Perolma 1, Kaniwara 2, Recreation 3. Also started — Taurina. Won by a length and a Kaitake Hack Handicap : Astraca 1, Research 2, Coronet 3. Also started — Mendip, Paul, and Rohepotai. Won by nearly two length s^ Flying Handicap: Waikaraka 1, Golden Eagle 2, Monai 3. Also started—Moriarty, Lady Menchikoff, and, Waihuku. The race was completely j spoilt by the very bad start, Waikara- I ka and Golden Eagle getting shut out, others straggling off, and Waihuku stayed at the post. Won by two Hack Scurry : Clemency 1. Tewhaha- • rua 2, Whana 3. Also started— Daisy Webb, Cloreen, St. Tarra, Pukehgahu, i Glen, Golden, Loop, Het Volt, Maika, Toanga, Overdraft. Giltrook and Lady Park. Won by a short head.
