Tiriiaru, March 24. The autumn meeting opened to-day with a fair- attendance, but speculation was not so brisk as usual. The results were as follows :— ■ Rosewell Handicap, six furlongs :t Ecarte (7.9) 1. Montreal (7.9) 2, British Peer (9st) 3. Won by half a head. Time, lmiri 15secs. .-,..,. Washdyke Welter, one mile : Chief Lochiel (9.2) 1, Somaroff (8.6) 2, Libyon (8.11) 3. Also started—Rosecommon; Ringman and Orient. Won by two lengths. Time, lisin 44secs. Smithfield Handicap, five furlongs : Silkweb (8.10) 1, Octave (7.9) 2 Miss Gall (8.3)3. Mythical (7.13) also started. Won by half a longl.n. Time Imin 2 l-sth sees. Timaru Cup, of 200 soys. 1J miles: Tikitere (8.2)1, Dabchick (8 1) 2 Tremulous (6.8) 3. Salvert (8.1) and Passion (7.8) also started. Passion paced for half the distance, then Tikitere ran through and won comfortably by a length. Time, 2min 10 3-sthsecs. Nursery Handicap, five furlongs: Boutade (8.13) 1, St. Felix (7.9) 2, Applegarth (8.13) 3. The. only starters. Won easily. Time, Imin 2secs. . President's Welter, six furlongs: White Cockade (8.9) 1, Zetland (8.9) 2, Bute (8.4) 3. The only starters. Won by a length and a half. Time, 1 mm 16'2-sthsecs. _ Hack Race, five furlongs: Federal 1, Merry Lass 2, Fanny Free 3. Won easily. Time, Imin 2 3-sth sees. Flying Handicap : Lady Amizon(B.2) i; Sea King (8.13) 2, Petroyna (8.9) 3. Also started— Severo, Clanta and Octave. Won by a neck.
