• The newspaper: "The People" has apologised" and .agreed to pay £1000 damages If or; libelling Mr Lloyd George, Chancellor of the .Exchequer, by an allegation that he had 'paid £20,000 to prevent being sued in. a divorce case. ' 'The Bystander' 'has also apologised, . and paid £300 to a charity in connection with: a similar libel. . Mr Lloyd George, in the witness box,' said there was not the slightest foundation for any of the statements made by" "The People." The Judge considered that Mr Lloyd George had acted with extreme moderation.
