• : Auckland, March 4 ; Another drowning accident, the third during the past week, took place this afternoon off Shelly Beach, Ponsonby, the victim being a young man named John Cliss Dawson, the son of the,. Hey John Dawson, of the Primitive Methodist Church, of Wellington.Dawson went out for a row in the afternoon .with a number- of companions, and the boat was put into Shelly beach at his request, so that; he might go in for a swim. Not being, able to swim, very well, he got into difficulties and a companion, a Mr Carbine,' went to" h"s aid, and the two were struggling in the water for some time. They called out for assistance from persons on the shore/ but at first the onlookers, thinking it was only a joke, did nob responf Afterwards one person went, but by the time he reached the spot both- men were pretty well exhausted.. Immediately afterwards another man came and" a boat was also put off. Carbine was got on boajrd the boat, but Dawson disap-i peared. ' The body .has not yet been recovered.
