LAND FOR CLOSER SETTLEMENT.

Wellington, Feb 26 ; A deputation waited on the Premier to urge that the Government purchase the Riddiford. estate, which adjoins the Cheltenham dairy factory for close settlement. The - Premier replied the Government had had negotiations about the estate, but hitherto had not been able to come, to terms. If a reasonable price was arrived at the matter would be referred to the Land Purchase Board, and doubtless the property would . be bought for closer settlement. It all depended upon a satisfactory price being, fixed for the property. , :
