ORDER FOR DESTROYERS.
LOCAL CONSTRUCTION POLICY. Received Feb. 5, 10.20 p'm. Melbourne, Feb. 5. The Federal Government has decided to at once order two torpedo destroyers of the river class, and of the latest approved type. They are wanted to serfe as models for boats to be built afterwards in Australia, lt is the intention of tbe Government to send to England skilled operatives to be employed by the successful tenderer for the construction of the vessels. On completion of the contract, the men will return, and be employed in building additional vessels locally.
